Trey was joined by 2 other little girls and their moms. The children were allowed to play for the first 10 minutes. Trey loved the small slide they had in the classroom. Then everyone took turns washing hands and finding a seat at a small table. All the parents were invited to sit next to their child. Trey was quite frustrated that he couldn't continue to play though.
The therapist began the oral motor preparation where the children were given things like whistles to blow and wash clothes to wipe their faces and mouths with.
Then they each got to participate in meal preparation which included picking the different colored utensils, bowls and cups they desired. The therapists had them feel the outer parts of the bananas they would be served. They each got to peel off part of the banana. Trey played with the banana but wouldn't put any in his mouth.
They next were able to scoop their own applesauce into their bowls. Little Trey just wanted to feed mommy the whole time. Trey brought his favorite chips (the one thing he usually will eat) to share with the group. This was a big hit. At the end everyone took turns cleaning up their own area.
I was really impressed and happy with how things went for our first session. I think this group therapy overtime is going to be very beneficial for Trey.
After therapy Trey continued to play after all his new friends left and we had our meeting to discuss goals for Trey for this upcoming year. I am very excited for this new support system to help him achieve feeding and drinking success. We are thankful to be accepted into this program. More updates to come as we continue group and individual therapy.
Hope everyone is having a good week:)
Always have to put a picture of the little man.

This is wonderful, Alissa! Thanks for the post.
