Curtis finally arrived home after a little over a week long road trip. We were so excited to have him home last night.

On Wed Trey had his buddy Chelsea over to hang out with us.


We thought we would make some signs for Curtis's much anticipated arrival.

Feeding Update

Well I thought it would be good to post about Trey's eating progress since it has been awhile since I have. Trey had a couple of weeks where he was battling his first ear infection and then a lingering cold so he just wasn't too interested in eating or drinking.

But lately he has been doing quite well with his willingness to taste foods. That means for Trey bringing food to his lips or getting a little actually in his mouth and usually spitting it out. He still has episodes of gagging at times or will get a piece of food in his mouth that he is unsure of and just refuses to swallow and drool everywhere. Which is always a struggle. For instance last night he was able to lick some black olives and strawberries. Some pasta did make it in his mouth but then he gagged some and spit it out. But he tried several times which is encouraging.

So his therapist's goal is now to move past his willingness to just taste and increase in volume. We know Trey feels safe with certain dry textures (his chips) so we need to build on others. We are going to offer small amounts of rice milk in a bowl before every snack or meal and slowly start to increase the thickness. The goal is for Trey to begin to feel safe with spoon feeding, drinking rice milk orally so someday it will replace his tube feedings and him learning to see his food all gone. It is going to take time but I know he can do it.

He is continuing group therapy once a week and individual therapy at our home every other week which has been great.

We are excited because in a couple of months once we get off a waiting list Trey will start going to preschool 2 times a week for about 2-3 hours at a time. The nice thing about this is that it is provided by his therapy services, it is a small class of about 8 children to 3 teachers and one of his therapist is the head teacher. His classroom will also be the same room he gets group therapy in which will be good for familiarity.

I think this will be great for Trey to learn to spend some time away from me and be around other children in a classroom setting. And also good for me to get some much needed alone time.

Time to eat!!!

Wiggle Worms

I started taking Trey to this drop-in parent/child class for children 18mos-2.5yrs called the Wiggle Worms. The class is held at Palouse Empire Gymnastics in Moscow, ID which is like 15-20 minute drive for us.


The purpose of the class is to expose children to new physical challenges and encourage social interaction. A typical class includes 10 mins of exploratory time, an obstacle course, circle time and eye-hand coordination activities.

It has been great for Trey because he is also learning to wait his turn and follow directions. He absolutely loves this class and NEVER wants to leave.

Dinner With The Gomez Family!!!

Last night I had our sweet neighbors over for dinner. Both of our husband's were out of town so I thought it would be perfect time for us to catch up and let the boys hang out.

We had a yummy dinner and great conversation. Here are a few pics from the evening.

The Gomez Family has been so welcoming since we have arrived to the neighborhood. Kathy has been so great about helping out with Trey if I have an appointment, etc. Her dear husband Ed is being deployed to Afghanistan in April. Please keep them in your prayers.

This past weekend the sweet Connell Family had Trey and I over to watch the Cougs play Arizona State. Unfortunately the team didn't end up having a very good trip at the Arizona schools :( But we still have 3 more games to redeem ourselves.

Shay's parents Mike and Colleen have been so good to me while Curtis has been so busy with traveling this season. It is so nice to have some adult interaction with Curtis's long road trip right now.

Of course Trey and Shay are always entertaining. Here are a few pics from the afternoon.

13 Years...

Before Curtis and I got married Valentine's Day was our anniversary. We have been together for 13 years now. As crazy as this sounds way back then I knew in my heart that was who I was going to marry someday.

After all these years he still drives me crazy at times. He knows how to push my buttons and can't get enough of sports on TV but I love him to pieces.

I love how he keeps me grounded when I tend to go crazy. I love how much he appreciates the importance of family. I love that he trusts God. I love how he knows me inside and out and still loves me unconditionally. I love that he still gives me butterflies inside. I love that we created such a miracle of life together. I love that we are going on this unknown journey of life as husband and wife.
